  4. GARY HINTON JOINED THE VETERANS SERVICE CORP AT BROOKDALE SENIOR CENTER EASLEY AND PARTICIPATED IN THEIR VETERANS DAY PROGRAM NOVEMBER 8, 2019.
  5. BONES WILSON, PAUL SMITH, DICK MEYERS, WALT CARTER, CINDY CARTER, SAM GILLESPIE, PAUL GILLESPIE, JIMMY DORSEY, JARREL ALEXANDER, GARY HINTON, CECIL DURHAM, KEN PARKER, AND HARVEY CRAIG ATTENDED THE VETERANS DAY PARADE AND SALUTE TO VETERANS IN LIBERTY NOVEMBER 10, 2019.
  6. GARY HINTON, PAUL SMITH, BONES WILSON, JARREL ALEXANDER, AND CECIL DURHAM ATTEND THE DACUSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VETERANS DAY PROGRAM NOVEMBER 11, 2019.  THEY REPLACED THE FLAG ON THE SCHOOL FLAG POLE AND FOLDED IT TO GIVE TO THEIR LONG TIME JANITOR AND A VETERAN WHO IS RETIRING THIS YEAR.
  7. BONES WILSON, PAUL SMITH, SAM GILLESPIE, TOM WILLIAMSON, PJ WILLIAMSON, PHILIP PREVATTE, JIM RUUD, TOMMY CHASTAIN, HARRY BILES, CINDY CARTER, WALT CARTER, GARY NEUBAUM BOB BURNS, BOB ELLIOTT, GARY HINTON, JARREL ALEXANDER, CECIL DURHAM, DICK MEYERS, JIMMY DORSEY, JIMMY STEWART, JOHN MCINTYRE, KENT DYKES, TERRY SEICKHEIMER, AND PAUL WEST ATTENDED AND PARTICIPATED IN THE VETERANS DAY PROGRAM AT ROBINSON MEMORIAL GARDENS NOVEMBER 11, 2019.  A FLAG WAS FOLDED AND GIVEN TO WWII VETERAN AND POST 52 MEMBER WHO FOUGHT ON NORMANDY JOHN MCINTYRE.
  8. SAM GILLESPIE, DICK MEYERS, HARRY BILES AND BONES WILSON SOLD BELK CHARITY DAY TICKETS THE DAY BEFORE THE SALE.  THEY COLLECTED A RECORD $621.  THE TOTAL COLLECTED, $1500, FOR THE THREE DAYS THEY WORKED WILL BE GIVEN TO PICKENS COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS TO HELP FEED AND MEET THE DAILY NEEDS OF OUR ELDERLY VETERANS WHO DEPEND ON THE SERVICE.
  9. NOVEMBER 11, 2019 – MEMBERS OF AMERICAN LEGION POST 52 PRESENTED A MODIFIED VERSION OF THE VETERANS DAY PROGRAM AT SAM’S WHOLESALE WAREHOUSE, EASLEY, SC

 

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. THE CHRISTMAS PARTY IS DECEMBER 10, 2019 1830 HRS AT THE SOUTH AND WEST, 109 SOUTH 1ST STREET, EASLEY, SC 29640.  A SIGN UP SHEET AND FLYERS TO DETAILS ABOUT THE PARTY ARE ON THE FRONT TABLE.  SEE PJ WILLIAMSON OR PAUL SMITH FOR TICKETS.
  2. THE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA PROGRAM WILL BE DECEMBER 14, 2019 1000 HRS AT ROBINSON MEMORIAL GARDENS.  THE SIGN UP SHEET TO PARTICIPATE IS ON THE FRONT TABLE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE. 
  3. AT THE LAST MEETING PAUL SMITH ASKED IF ANYONE HAD AN INTEREST IN TAKING THE AMERICAN LEGION BASIC TRAINING COURSE.  THERE IS AN INTEREST AND THE COURSE WILL BE HELD JANUARY 11, 2020 0900 TO 1400 HOURS.  REGISTER ON THE SIGN UP SHEET ON THE FRONT TABLE.  YOU WILL NEED EITHER YOUR COMPUTER, LAPTOP, OR IPHONE TO TAKE THE COURSE. LUNCH WILL BE SERVED.
  4. THE ANNUAL SOUP AND CORNBREAD SUPPER WILL BE JANUARY 28, 2020 AT 1800 HRS.  PLEASE, IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND AND BRING A SOUP, DESSERT, UTENSILS, OR DRINKS SIGN THE SHEET SO WE WILL KNOW HOW TO PLAN.
  5. MAYOR ELECT BUTCH WOMACK HAS BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THE EASLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR AND THE EASLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR AWARDS FOR 2019.  HE WILL HELP US WITH THE PROGRAM.
  6. POST 52 HOPES TO ADD THE WINNERS OF THE PICKENS COUNTY EMS AND THE PICKENS COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENTS TO OUR ANNUAL AWARDS.  ALL AWARDS ARE FORWARDED TO THE DEPARTMENT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR DEPARTMENT AWARDS.
  7. TOM WILLIAMSON ALERTED THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE THE FLAG BURNING PIT HAS A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM.  PLANS WILL BE MADE MAKE THE REPAIRS. 
  8. A LOCAL MERCHANT HAS AGREED TO REFURBISH THE 90 MM GUN SITTING ON POPE FIELD.  AFTER REFURBISHING IT WILL BE MOVED TO A LOCATION ON THE POST PROPERTY.  AT THIS TIME ALL OF THE DETAILS ARE NOT COMPLETE.  PAUL IS RESEARCHING AND WILL ADVISE.  NHE MANAGEMENT COMPANY WILL BE A PART OF THE DECISION AS TO WHERE THE GUN WILL BE PLACED.
  9. JONATHAN STRANGE HAS AGREED TO CHAIR THE ORATORICAL COMMITTEE SO THE POST CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE ORATORICAL CONTEST.  DETAILS WILL FOLLOW.
  10. POST 52 WILL BE 75 YEARS OLD IN 2020.  IF ALL GOES WELL WE WILL PLAN A FLAG RETIREMENT PROGRAM AND REDEDICATE THE 90 MM ON FLAG DAY JUNE 14, 2020.  LOCAL OFFICIALS AND THE PUBLIC WILL BE INVITED.
  11. A VOLUNTEER IS NEEDED TO BE THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FOR 2020. 
  12. POST 52 MAGNETIC CALENDARS FOR 2020 ARE ON THE FRONT TABLE.  THE MEETING DATES ARE MARKED IN RED FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE.  THE CALENDAR CAN BE ATTACHED TO YOUR REFREIGERATOR FOR EASY VIEWING AND AS A REMINDER.  SEE ________________________ FOR YOUR CALENDAR.  BE SURE YOU HAVE A CHECK MARK BESIDE YOUR NAME ON THE LIST OF MEMBERS IF YOU PICK UP A CALENDAR.  WE ONLY HAVE ENOUGH FOR EACH MEMBER TO HAVE ONE.

THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS MANNED “THE EASLEY FALL FOR THE ARTS” BOOTH ON THE SQUARE FOR THE EASLEY FALL FESTIVAL:  TOM WILLIAMSON, SAM GILLESPIE, ART JOHNS, DICK MEYERS, NANCY MAWHINNEY, AND HARRY BILES .  THEY SOLD SEVERAL FLAGS, COLLECTED FOR THE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA, AND HAD DONATIONS TO THE POST.

WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE EASLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE THE NEW STREET SIGN WAS DEDICATED ON OCTOBER 10, 2019 AT 1 PM BY A CUTTING A RIBBON.  MORE THAN 40 PEOPLE ATTENDED AND ENJOYED A SNACK.  PICKENS COUNTY SENATOR REX RICE, REPRESENTATIVE FROM JEFF DUNCAN’S OFFICE, A REPRESENTATIVE FROM LINDSAY GRAHAMS OFFICE AND SHERRY HARRIS, THE PICKENS COUNTY VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE ATTENDED.
  5. BONES WILSON, SAM GILLESPIE, ANDY WYATT, AND PAUL SMITH ATTENDED THE GIRL SCOUT TROOP 2560 ON OCTOBER 21, 2019 AND PRESENTED A FLAG PROGRAM.
  6. THE UNITED CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES BORROWED OUR AMERICAN FLAG FOR THE 5K RACE LAST SATURDAY.
  7. THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE VOTED TO PURCHASE POLE AND BASES FOR THEIR FLAGS TO BE USED AT THE PICKENS COUNTY VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE.
  8. THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE APPROVED A $200 DONATION TO THE FISHER HOUSE FOUNDATION.
  9. GET WELL CARDS HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO SEND TO OUR SHUT INS WHO ARE ON SICK CALL.

DECEMBER 14, 2019 – 1000 HRS – JOIN US TO PLACE THE WREATHS ON THE VETERANS GRAVES IN ROBINSON MEMORIAL GARDENS.  WE ARE REMEMBERING OUR DECEASED VETERANS WITH THE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA PROGRAM – WE HAVE RECEIVED 80% OF THE FUNDS NEEDED TO PURCHASE ALL OF WREATHS.  THANK YOU MEMBERS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION.
  8. IF YOU KNOW OF A STUDENT 9TH THRU 12TH GRADE IN EASLEY HIGH, THE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, OR HOME SCHOOLED PLEASE INFORM THEM ABOUT THE ORATORICAL CONTEST.  WINNERS OF THE NATIONAL ORATORICAL WILL RECEIVE EITHER A 1ST PLACE $18,000, 2ND PLACE $16,000, OR 3RD PLACE $14,000 SCHOLARSHIP TO THE COLLEGE OF THEIR CHOICE.

THE POST 52 MEMBERS WHO SOLD BELK CHARITY DAY SALE COUPONS WERE PAUL SMITH, BONES WILSON, HARRY BILES, DICK MEYERS, LARRY HAMBY, BEN HOUSTON AND THE PROJECT CHAIRMAN SAM GILLESPIE.   $1500 WAS RAISED AND DONATED TO PICKENS COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS TO HELP SUPPORT THE 25 TO 30 VETERANS FED DAILY BY MEALS ON WHEELS.

LETTERS HAVE BEEN SENT TO MEMBERS ASKING FOR DONATIONS TO SUPPORT THE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA PROGRAM, DECEMBER 14, 2019 1000 HRS.  TO DATE NEARLY $2000 HAS BEEN COLLECTED BUT TO PUT A WREATH ON EVERY GRAVE $5250.00 IS NEEDED.  PLEASE CONSIDER PURCHASING A WREATH TO PUT A WREATH ON EVERY GRAVE AT ROBINSON MEMORIAL GARDENS.
  3. SEVERAL POST 52 MEMBERS SUPPORTED GIRL SCOUT TROOP 2580 DURING THEIR WALK TO REMEMBER 9/11/2001.  THIS ANNUAL EVENT IS A REMINDER OF THE ATTACK ON AMERICA.  LET’S NEVER FORGET.

·         POST 52 MEMBERS, SAM GILLESPIE, BEN HOUSTON, HARRY BILES, BOB ELLIOTT, DICK MEYERS, GARY HINTON, AND PAUL SMITH WITH THE HELP OF THE EASLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN MATTHEW LITTLETON AND ENGINEER BRANDON ROWLAND CHANGED THE LARGE FLAG IN FRONT OF TOWN AND COUNTRY SHOPPING CENTER.  THE FIRE DEPARTMENT USED THE OCCASION TO PRACTICE USING THEIR LADDER AND PULLED THE NEW LANYARD THROUGH THE LOOP AT THE TOP OF THE POLE.  HELPING WITH THE FLAG WERE 7 YEAR OLD JACE AND 5 YEAR OLD JAX CUNNINGHAM.

·         BOTH THE LEGION AND THE BASEBALL ACCOUNTS WERE AUDITED BY JIM RUUD AND DICK MEYERS AND FOUND TO BE IN ORDER.  THEY SUGGESTED THE $3000 LOAN MADE TO BASEBALL FROM THE LEGION ACCOUNT BE REPAID.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION:

    We have had a special request from Mary Vaughn.  Her husband, Charles Vaughn Jr. is a member of Post 172 but is in the process of transferring to post 52.  Mr. Vaughn’s Dad, was a WWII veteran who died in Metz, France during the war.  Charles Vaughan Jr. never knew his Dad since he was only 10 months old when his Dad died.  He has never had closer to losing his Dad.  His wife, Mary Vaughan, has asked us to help with this.  The Vaughan family is supplying the 49 star flag that was on Charles Vaughan Sr’s. Coffin.  Charles Vaughan Sr. has been honored with his name on the Washington Wall of Remembrance and on the Pickens County Courthouse wall.  Charles Vaughan Jr. will give the flag to the Pickens County Museum after the ceremony.

·         Larry Hamby, Sam Gillespie, and Paul Smith will fold the flag while Commander Wilson presents the 13 reasons for the folds.  Paul will present the flag to Commander Richardson and he will present the flag to Mr. Vaughan.

·         After the flag is presented to Mr. Vaughan, we will conduct a one man Post Everlasting for Charles Vaughn Sr.  Commander Richardson will light the candle.

THEY ARE A SPECIAL GROUP OF YOUNG MEN WHO WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE JUDGING BY THEIR PERFORMANCE ON THE BASEBALL DIAMOND.

·         LIABILITY INSURANCE IS NOW ACTIVE FOR POST 52.  ANY ITEMS WE MAY LOSE OR HAVE STOLEN ARE NOW COVERED.

·         THE ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION ARE COMPLET AND WE ARE NOW KNOWN AS EASLEY POST 52, INCORPORATED INSTEAD OF EASLEY POST 52.

·         THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE VOTED NOT TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE POST.  IT WAS FEARED SOME INDIVIDUALS MAY HAVE FELT OUT.  WE WILL REMAIN EASLY POST 52.

·         AN AUDIT OF THE POST FINANCES WAS CONDUCTED BY JIM RUUD AND RICHARD MEYERS JUNE 24, 2019.  ALL ACCOUNTS WERE FOUND TO BE IN ORDER.

·         THE DEPARTMENT FALL CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD OCTOBER 4 THRU OCTOBER 6, 2019 AT THE MARRIOTT IN COLUMBIA.  A SIGN UP SHEET WITH DETAILS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE NEXT MEETING FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING.  DURING THE CONFERENCE WE EXPECT TO RECEIVE A FEW AWARDS.

·         THE BELK CHARITY DAY SALE HAS BEEN PLANNED.  BELK CHARITY DAY CHAIRMAN SAM GILLESPIE HAS THE TIME AND DATE DETAILS.  THIS IS THE PROJECT WE DESIGNATE THE FUNDS RECEIVED FOR THE VETERANS WHO DEPEND ON THE PICKENS COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS FOR A HOT MEAL EVERYDAY.  OVERALL WE COMMIT TO SELLING BELK CHARITY DAY COUPONS FOR ONLY 15 HOURS TO BELK BEFORE THE SALE.  PLEASE PLAN TO DEDICATE AT LEAST AN HOUR TO SUPPORT THIS CAUSE.

·         VETERANS DAY WEEKEND IS FAST APPROACHING.  WE WILL HAVE OUR MAIN PROGRAM AT ROBINSON MEMORIAL GARDESN ON VETERANS DAY NOVEMBER 11, 2019.  MANY OF YOU HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE PAST TO ASSIST THE LADIES TO WALK ACROSS THE GROUNDS.  THE SIGN UP SHEET FOR THIS PROJECT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE NEXT MEETING.

·         SAM’S WHOLESALE HAS INVITED POST 52 TO PRESENT A SHORT PROGRAM AFTER THE ROBINSON MEMORIAL PROGRAM IN THE WAREHOUS ON VETERANS DAY.

·         THE WILLOWS HAS ASKED US TO RETURN FOR VETERAN’S DAY PROGRAMS FOR THEIR SENIOR CITIZENS.  A DEFINITE DAY AND TIME HAS NOT BEEN SCHEDULED.

·         CROSSWELL ELEMENTARY HAS ASKED AND EXPECTS US TO RETURN TO THEIR SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 8, 2019 FOR THEIR VETERANS DAY PROGRAMS.  THE CHILDREN REALLY ENJOY LEARNING ABOUT AMERICA.

·         DACUSVILLE ELEMENTARY HAS ASKED POST 52 TO SHARE IN TEHIR MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM THIS YEAR.  A TIME AND DATE HAS NOT BEEN SET.

·         THE CHRISTMAS PARTY DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM DECEOMBER 3, 2019 TO DECEMBER 10, 2019 AND WILL BE HELD AT THE SOUTH & WEST HALL STARTING AT 6 PM.  THE MEAL AND ENTERTAINMENT IS BEING PLANNED BY OUR NEW LADIES AUXILIARY.  THEY HAVE PROMISED TO SING AND DANCE.  THE COST OF THE IS $17.50 PER PERSON.

·         THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS ATTENDED THE 2019 SPRING CONVENTION: BONES WILSON, PAUL SMITH, JIM RUUD, DICK MEYERS, TOM WILLIAMSON, CINDY CARTER, WALT CARTER, SAM GILLESPIE, AND HARRY BILES.

·         POST 52 RECEIVED THE 100% MEMBERSHIP AWARD FOR THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW

·         PAUL SMITH WAS AWARDED THE DEPARTMENT OF SC POST ADJUTANT AWARD FOR 2019.  THERE ARE 163 POST IN SC.

·         POPPY SALES WAS A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS, MUCH OF IT DUE TO A VERY LARGE DONATION FROM A POST MEMBER.  WE COLLECTED $7700 AND THE AUXILAIARY COLLECTED $130.  DURING THE LAST MEETING THE POST AGREED TO KEEP $1,000 ON HAND TO HELP LOCAL VETERANS.  THE REMAINDER WILL BE DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY FUND, OPERATION COMFORT WARRIORS, AND THE NATIONAL CHILDREN FUNDS.

·         ON MEMORIAL DAY FOLLOWING THE PRESIDENTS REQUEST WE MOVED THE FLAG IN FRONT OF WAL MART TO HALF MAST AND AT NOON WE REPLACED THE OLD FLAG, INSTALLED A NEW FLAG AND PLACED THE FLAG BACK TO FULL MAST.

·         TO HONOR OUR FALLEN COMRADES FLAGS WERE PLACED ON VETERANS GRAVES IN WESTVIEW, ST. PAULS AND MAULDIN CEMETERIES BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY BY TOM WILLIAMSON, HARRY BILES, BOB ELLIOTT, PAUL THOMAS, DAN EVANS, AND TERRY SWICKHEIMER.  THE FLAGS WERE REMOVED THE DAY AFTER MEMORIAL DAY.

·         THE BELK CHARITY DAY SALE YIELDED $1500.  THE PROCEEDS WERE DONATED TO PICKENS COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS TO HELP FEED VETERANS WHO ARE ON THE MEALS ON WHEELS MEAL PLAN.

·         A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE LAST MINUTE FLAG RETIREMENT PROGRAM AT STATE FARM INSURANCE, DANIEL CROSBY AGENCY ON JUNE 14, FLAG DAY.  TOMMY CHASTAIN, TOM WILLIAMSON, PJ WILLIAMSON PRESIDENT OF THE LADIES AUXILIARY HELD THE POW/MIA FLAG TO REPRESENT THE POST, SAM GILLESPIE, BONES WILSON, HARRY BILES, PAUL THOMAS, GARY HINTON, BILL BAKER, DICK MEYERS, AND TWO MEMBERS WHO HAVE BEEN ON THE SICK CALL LIST FOR MANY MONTHS.  IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE HARRY DEWICK AND BILL ROSS BACK WITH US.  THE EASLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT SENT TWO REPRESENTATIVES TO PROTECT US FROM BURNING DOWN THE CITY.  THEY WERE LEE KAISER AND WADE BROOKS.

·         POST 52 DONATED $200 TO THE PICKENS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

·         THE 4TH OF JULY LUNCHEON FOR THE APARTMENT RESIDENTS WILL START AT 11 AM JULY 4TH.  PLEASE SIGN THE SHEET IF YOU ARE ATTENDING, WHAT YOU ARE BRINGING, AND THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN YOUR PARTY.  WE WANT TO BE SURE WE HAVE ENOUGH HOT DOGS AND HAMBURGERS FOR EVERYONE. ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE LUNCH ARE SWEET AND UNSWEET TEA, DESSERTS, PAPER PLATES, CUPS, NAPKINS, SOFT DRINKS, AND SIDE DISHES SUCH AS SLAW, BAKED BEANS, AND POTATO SALAD.

·         WE WILL DELAY THE DEDICATION OF THE NEW STREET SIGN.  IT WAS SUGGESTED DURING THE EXECUTIVE MEETING 6-18-2019 WE RENAME THE POST.  SO FAR WE HAVE HAD FOUR RECOMMENDATIONS.  DURING THE EXECUTIVE MEETING TOM WILLIAMSON MADE A MOTION WE RENAME THE POST THE CAPTAIN KIMBERLY HAMPTON POST AND THE MOTION WAS PASSED.  PAUL SMITH INTRODUCED THE NAME 1ST LT. ALBERT STARK HAGOOD AS A POSSIBILITY. IT WAS NOT A MOTION SO IT WAS NOT VOTED ON.  BONES WILSON AND SAM MENTIONED A HIGH SCHOOL FRIEND OF THEIRS WHO DIED IN VIETNAM, RICHARD BRIDGES, HARRY BILES DID NOT MAKE A MOTION BUT HAS SUGGESTED THE POST BE NAMED AFTER 73 YEAR MEMBER BILL ROBINSON.   THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE WILL TAKE THESE NAMES UNDER CONSIDERATION AND EXAMINE EACH NAME AND QUALIFICATION BEFORE PRESENTING TO THE POST FOR A VOTE. THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS SUGGESTED WE PLAN A RIBBON CUTTING WHEN WE DEDICATE THE SIGN.  WE CAN MAKE IT A COMMUNITY EVENT IF WE SPONSOR THE RIBBON CUTTING, CHANGE THE POST NAME, AND DEDICATE THE MONUMENT AT THE SAME TIME.

·         THE FOLLOWING REPORTS WERE SUBMITTED TO THE DEPARTMENT AND NATIONAL AMERICAN LEGION FOR REVIEW. (1) THE CONSOLIDATED REPORT (2) THE POST NARRATIVE REPORT, (3) THE POST EXCELLENCE AWARD, (4) THE COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT, AND (5) THE NATIONAL OFFICER REPORT.

·         TO PROTECT THE MEMBERS AND THE POST SEVERAL NEEDED ORGANIZATION PLANS HAVE BEEN ADDED THIS YEAR.  POST 52 IS NOW INCORPORATED, WE HAVE SECURED A SOUTH CAROLINA TAX NUMBER, GOLF CART INSURANCE AND A LIABILITY INSURANCE POLICY.  THE INCORPORATION RELIEVES THE POSSIBILITY OF MEMBER RESPONSIBILITY, THE SC SALES TAX NUMBER ALLOWS US TO PURCHASE FROM THE FLAG AND EMBLEM WITHOUT PAYING SC SALES TAXES, THE GOLF CART IS INSURED AGAINST THEFT, PERSONAL HARM, AND DAMAGE, AND THE LIABILITY POLICY PROTECTS MEMBERS, INDIVIDUALS HANDLING MONEY, MONEY IF IT IS STOLEN, AND ITEMS SUCH AS THE COMPUTER, PRINTER, ETC.

·         THIS HAS BEEN A BANNER YEAR FOR SC POST 52 AND OUR YOUTH PROGRAMS.  SINCE FEBRUARY 1, 2019 WE HAVE BEEN PREPARING FOR PALMETTO BOYS AND GIRLS STATE, THE NATHAN WOLFE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY, AND AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL.  49 YOUTH FROM SEVERAL LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL LIVES HAVE BENEFITTED AND HAVE BEEN CHANGED BECAUSE OF OUR POST. WE COULD NOT HAVE ACHIEVED THESE GOALS WITHOUT THE INVOLVMENT AND HELP OF ALL OF THE POST MEMBERS.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR MEMBERSHIP.

·         NEXT MONTH WE ARE INVITING EASLEY’S LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIREFIGHTER AWARD RECIPIENTS TO OUR MEETING.  LAST YEAR A MEMBER FURNISHED THE MEAL AT A COST OF $550.    WE HAVE HIRED THE SAME CATERER THIS YEAR AT THE SAME COST.  THEY PREPARE THE MEAL, SERVE THE MEAL, AND CLEANE UP AFTER THE MEAL.  THE COST IS $11 PER PERSON.  DONATIONS TO COVER THE COST WILL BE APPRECIATED.

·         WE DISCOVERED RECENTLY THE POST IS NOT INCORPORATED.  STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO INCORPORATE POST 52 FOR THE MEMBERS.

·         WITH THE NEW TAX LAWS WE ARE SUBJECT TO SALES TAX FROM PURCHASES BEING MADE THROUGH THE FLAG AND EMBLEM CATALOG.  WE HAVE REQUESTED A STATE SALES TAX NUMBER.

·         IT IS ALMOST TIME TO RENEW YOUR 2020 MEMBERSHIP.  BECAUSE OF THE TIME PERIOD BETWEEN NOW AND JULY 1, WE WILL ALLOW NEW MEMBERS TO JOIN FOR $34.  THIS COVERS THE FEE REQUIRED BY THE DEPARTMENT AND NATIONAL.

·         DISTRICT 13 WILL BE MEETING AT POST 52 APRIL 20, 2019 AT 10 AM.  THE NINE POST THAT MAKE UP DISTRICT 13 AND ALL POST 52 MEMBERS ARE INVITED.  WE WILL HAVE DONUTS AND COFFEE. CARLTON PATTERSON, DISTRICT COMMANDER, HAS DECIDED NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION. BE PREPARED TO ELECT A NEW DISTRICT COMMANDER.

·         THE EASLEY SPRING FLING WILL BE APRIL 6, 2019 FROM 8:30 AM TO 3 PM.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO MAN THE BOOTH.  IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND GREET VETERANS AND TO BE A PART OF THE COMMUNITY.

• THE AMERICAN LEGION WILL BE 100 YEARS OLD MARCH 15, 2019.  AMERICAN LEGION POST 52 AND FREDDY’S FROZEN CUSTARD ARE CELEBRATING THIS OCCASION IN FRONT OF FREDDY’S. 4825 CALHOUN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY, EASLEY MARCH 16, 2019 FROM 11:00 AM TO 3:00 PM.  ALL MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE.  MUCH NEEDED ARE MEMBERS TO BE A PART OF THE HONOR GUARD WHICH WILL CONSIST OF BRINGING IN THE FLAGS BEFORE THE OPENING CEREMONY.  THE OPENING CEREMONY WILL NOT BE LONG BUT AS PART OF THE CEREMONY WE WILL PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO AMERICA, PRESENT THE POW/MIA CEREMONY, AND WELCOME THE GUEST.  FREDDY’S IS FURNISHING A BOUNCE HOUSE AND FACE PAINTING.  THE POST WILL FURNISH “OUR COUNTRY’S FLAG” COMIC BOOK AND A 4”X6” FLAG FOR THE CHILDREN.  WE ARE LIMITED TO 400 BOOKS AND FLAGS.  THE CITY OF EASLEY IS PARTICIPATING ALSO.  THE EASLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL BE PRESENT WITH A FIRE ENGINE AND FIREFIGHTER AND THE EASLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL BE PRESENT WITH A POLICE CRUISER AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.  WORLD WAR II VETERANS ARE ASKED TO BE THERE AND BE RECOGNIZE AS WELL AS TALK TO THE PEOPLE. EVERY HOUR WE WILL TEACH A FLAG ETIQUETTE AND FLAG FOLDING CLASS.  THE CLASS WILL PRESENT THE MEANING OF EACH FOLD.  AT LEAST SIX MEMBERS WILL BE NEEDED TO HELP.  IF YOU ARE WILLING TO HELP PLEASE SIGN THE FORM ON THE FRONT TABLE WITH NAME AND PHONE NUMBER.  IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HONOR GUARD OR FLAG FOLDING, YOU ARE COMMITTING TO PRACTIVE BEFORE THE PROGRAM.  MEMBERS WHO COMMIT TO BEING IN THE HONOR GUARD OR FLAG FOLDING DO NOT HAVE TO PRESENT FOR THE ENTIRE FOUR HOURS.
• FREDDY’S HAS OFFERED THEIR PARKING LOT TO HOLD THE EVENT.  EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT PARTICIPATING IN AN ACTIVITY PLEASE SUPPORT FREDDY’S BY COMING OUT AND PURCHASING A MEAL. 
• POST 52 MEMBERSHIP SUPPORTED THE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA PROGRAM LAST FALL MORE THAN ANY PROGRAM THE POST HAS ADMINISTERED.  IT WAS A GREAT JOB.  WE HAVE NOT SUPPORTED THE PALMETTO BOYS AND GIRLS STATE PROGRAM AS WELL.  THE POST HAS 12 SLOTS TO SEND APPLICANTS TO BOYS STATE BUT IF WE DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS AND WE CANNOT COMMIT TO OUR QUOTA.  YOUR HELP WILL BE APPRICIATED.
• RIFLE RAFFLE – THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE POST TO EARN MONEY.  THIS YEAR THE POST IS ABLE TO RETAIN $10.00 OF EVERY TICKET SOLD.  WE ORIGINALLY AGREED TO SELL 200 TICKETS AND MOST OF THOSE ARE SOLD.  WE BROUGHT IN AN ADDITIONAL 50 TICKETS.  IF YOU HAVE NOT PURCHASED A RIFLE RAFFLE TICKET SEE SAM AT THE END OF THE TABLE BEFORE YOU LEAVE TONIGHT.  THE PROCEEDS FROM THE RIFLE TICKETS WILL BE USED TO REFURBISH THE 90 MM ANTI AIRCRAFT/TANK GUN BEHIND THE EASLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS LOCATED IN POPE FIELD.  THE GUN IS A BIT OF HISTORY WE WANT TO MAINTAIN AS PART OF OUR POST.
• THE DOLL HOUSE WAS DONATED BY RICH PAVLICH FOR THE BENEFIT OF POST 52.  THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DECIDED TO RAFFLE THE DOLL.  THE TICKETS ARE $10 EACH AND AVAILABLE AT THE FRONT TABLE TONIGHT.  THE DRAWING FOR THE DOLL HOUSE WILL BE MARCH 16, 2019 AT 2:45 IN FREDDY’S AS PART OF THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION.
• NATIONAL COMMANDER RAISTAD WILL BE AT RICHARD B. CAMPBLL NURSING HOME POST 184 MARCH 5, 2019 FROM 2:30 PM TO 3:30 PM AND WILL MEETWITH LEGIONNAIRS IN THE MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN COLUMBIA AT 9 AM WEDNESDAY MARCH 6, 2019 BEFORE HE ADDRESS’S THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT NOON.  YOU ARE INVITED TO BOTH EVENS IN COLUMBIA. IF YOU ARE ABLE PLEASE GO AND REPRESENT POST 52.  WEAR YOUR LEGION CAP AND LEGION SHIRT FOR IDENTIFICATION.
• THE ANNUAL AWARD PRESENTATION TO EASLEY’S FINEST LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIREFIGHTER WILL BE AT THE MONTHLY MEETING APRIL 23, 2019.  LAST YEAR A MEMBER FURNISHED THE MEAL BUT THIS YEAR THE POST WILL NEED TO FURNISH THE MEAL IF WE DECIDE TO HAVE THE MEALL.  THE TOTAL COST LAST YEAR WAS $550 WHICH INCLUDED THE MEAL, SERVING, CLEANING UP AND THE TIP.  THE QUESTION IS DO WE HAVE A MEAL THIS YEAR?  THE POST CAN PAY BUT WE WANT YOUR OPINION AND SHOULD THE MEMBERS BE ASKED TO HELP PAY FOR THE MEAL.  WILL ANYONE MAKE A MOTION TO SUPPORT HAVING MEAL OR NOT SUPPORT HAVING A MEAL.
• PALMETTO BOYS AND GIRSL STATE FOR EASLEY HIGH, WREN HIGH, AND POWDERSVILLE HIGH WILL BE SELECTED BY THE END OF MARCH.  PALMETTO BOYS AND GIRLS STATE IS JUNE 9 THRU 15 AT ANDERSON COLLEGE.  OPENING NIGHT IS AMERICAN LEGION NIGHT AND ALL MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.  IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN, YOU ARE MISSING AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A VETERAN AND A FANTASTIC SALUTE TO AMERICA. • THE NATHAN WOLFE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY WILL BE HELD AT THE SOUTH CAROLINA LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING CENTER THE WEEK OF JUNE 16 THRU JUNE 22, 2019.  EVERY APPLICANT WHO HAS ATTENDED HAS COME BACK EXCITED ABOUT BECOMING A FIRST RESPONDER AS A CAREER.
• BASEBALL SEASON IS FAST APPROACHING.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEED TO WORK IN THE CONCESSION STAND AND TICKET STAND. BASEBALL OFFERS 18 YOUNG MEN A CHANCE TO LIVE A DREAM.  59 PLAYERS WHO PLAYED AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL ARE IN TH BASEBALL HALL OF FAME.  THE PROGRAM OFFERS YOUNG MEN WHO MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY OTHERWISE A CHANCE TO PLAY BASEBALL.  THEY ARE ALSO TAUGHT COURTESY, AND RESPECT ON THE FIELD AND PROPER RESPECT FOR THE FLAG WHEN THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IS BEING PLAYED.   
• POPPY SALES WILL BE HELD AT WAL-MART AND SAM’S MAY 24, 25, AND 27TH.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED IN SHIFTS.  WAL MART HAS 3 DOORS AND SAM’S HAS 1 DOOR.  4 VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR EACH SHIFT RUNNING FROM 9 TO 12, 12 TO 3, AND 3 TO SIX EACH DAY OR UNTIL ALL OF THE POPPIES ARE SOLD. LAST YEAR POST 52 COLLECTED MORE THAN $5,000.  ALL OF THE PROCEEDS COLLECTED FROM POPPY SALES WERE DISRIBUTED TO SUPPORT VETERANS AND NO ONE ELSE BUT VETERANS.  ALL OF THE PROCEEDS WERE SENT TO THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY FUND, OPERATION COMFORT WARRIORS, AND THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS.
• POST 52 WILL PLACE FLAGS ON VETERANS GRAVES AT WESTVIEW AND MAULDING CEMETERIES MAY 23 AND WILL REMOVE MAY 28, 2019.  IF YOU WILL VOLUNTEER TO HELP THE SIGN UP FORM IS ON THE FRONT TABLE.  SEE THE TOM WILLIAMSON, SERGEANT AT ARMS, FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION.
• THE EASLEY SPRING FLING IS APRIL 6, 2019 AT THE EASLEY MARKET SQUARE.  WE WILL HAVE A BOOTH OPENED FROM 9 AM TO 3 PM.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO TAKE SHIFTS AND MAN THE BOOTH.

• ON NOVEMBER 16, 2018 BONES WILSON, SAM GILLESPIE, TOM WILLIAMS AND LADIES AUXILIARY PRESIDENT PJ WILLIAMSON RETURNED TO THE WILLOWS AND GAVE A PRESENTATION ON FOLDING THE AMERICAN FLAG AND THE MEANING OF EACH FOLD.

- THE SOUTH CAROLINA LEGISLATURE HAS PRESENTED A BILL # TO SUPPORT FREE TUITION FOR DISABLED VETERANS CARETAKERS.  THE CARETAKER IF OFTEN THE WIFE.  THE STATE OF SC ALREADY GIVES FREE TUITITION TO THE VETERAN OR THE VETERANS CHILDREN BUT NOTHING IS IN PLACE FOR THE CARETAKER.  PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL SENATOR REX RICE OR REPRESENTATIVE NEAL COLLINS TO SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM.

BONNIE ZEBROWSKI, WHOSE HUSBAND HAD PASSED AWAY TWO YEARS AGO IN RIVERIA, FLORIDA.  SHE HAD JUST RECIVED THE FLAG WHICH WAS USED TO TRANSPORT HER HUSBAND TO THE CREMATORIUM. SHE ASKED US TO FOLD THE FLAG FOR HER.  WE INVITED HER TO OUR MONTHLY MEETING AND CONDUCTED A POST EVERLASTING SERVICE FOR HER BENEFIT.  HER HUSBAND, SP 5 DANIEL LEON ZEBROWSKI, WAS A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION POST IN RIVERIA.  EVIDENTLY SHE HAD NOT HAD A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HIM.  IT WAS A MOVING EVENT FOR OUR POST AND MRS. • WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA IS UNDERWAY. THE RESPONSE FROM MEMBERS HAS BEEN EXCELLENT.  76% OF THE MONEY COLLECTED HAS BEEN DONATED BY MEMBERS.  WE EXPECT TO LAY MORE THAN 300 WREATHS DECEMBER 15, 2018 AT 10 AM.  MANY GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO HELP.  GIRL SCOUTS, BOY SCOUTS, TRAIL BLAZERS, VETERANS, POST 52 MEMBERS, AND PEOPLE WHO SHOW UP EVERY YEAR. 
• THE CHRISTMAS PARTY IS DECEMBER 4, 2018 6:30 PM AT SMITHFIELD’S COUNTRY CLUB.  THE MENU WILL BE FRIED CHICKEN, ROAST BEEF, GREEN BEANS, MASHED POTATOES, GRAVY, BANANA PUDDING, AND PEACH COBBLER.  THE $22.50 PER PERSON INCLUDES THE MEAL, GRATUITY, LINEN TABLECLOTHS AND NAPKINS, AND THE COST OF THE ROOM RENTAL. 
• THE DOWNTOWN EASLEY FALL FESTIVAL HAD POOR ATTENDANCE.  WE SOLD A FLAG AND HAD A FEW WREATH DONATIONS FOR $95.00.
• AS WE ENTER THE HOLIDAY SEASON, THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS, PLEASE REMEMBER THE ONES IN NEED AND FILL OUR FOOD DRIVE WITH HAPPINESS SO NO ONE WILL GO HUNGRY.
•  THE RIFLE RAFFLE WILL BEGIN IN NOVEMBER.  THE $25 RAFFLE TICKETS ARE GOOD FOR 52 DRAWINGS OR UNTIL YOU WIN.  THE DRAWING STARTS THE FIRST TUESDAY IN JULY 2019 AND ENDS THE LAST TUESDAY OF JUNE 2020.  POST 52 ORDERED 210 TICKETS TO SELL.   POST 52 WILL KEEP $10.00 FOR EACH TICKET WE SELL.  THE TICKETS HAVE TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR.  EXAMPLE:  IF YOU TAKE TEN AND SELL FIVE, THE FIVE UNSOLD TICKETS HAVE TO BE TURNED BACK IN AND ACCOUNTED FOR AT THE DEPARTMENT.  HOW MANY TICKETS WILL YOU SELL?  
• SOUTH CAROLINA OFFERS FREE TUITION TO POST 9-11 VETERANS AND THEIR CHILDREN.  THERE IS A REQUEST TO CONTACT YOUR LOCAL STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND SENATOR AND ADD SPOUSES TO THE FREE EDUCATION SINCE MANY TIMES THEY ARE THE CARETAKERS FOR MANY OF OUR VETERANS. 
• JIM RABUN IS OUR LEGISLATURE CONTACT.  IF YOU HAVE A CONCERN HE CAN BE CONTACTED THROUGH THE AMERICAN LEGION DEPARTMENT OF SOUTH CAROLINA HEADQUARTERS. 
• $124 MILLION DOLLARS HAVE BEEN FUNDED TO BUILD 3 NEW VETERAN NURSING HOMES AND ASSISTED LIVING IN SOUTH CAROLINA.  THEY ARE BEING BUILT IN MYRTLE BEACH, FLORENCE, AND COLUMBIA.  THE HOMES ARE EXPECTED TO BE FINISHED UNTIL SOMETIME IN 2024.
• THE FISHER HOUSE BEING BUILD IN COLUMBIA NEAR THE WILLIAM DORN VETERAN HOSPITAL IS EXPECTED TO BE FINSIHED IN TWO YEARS.
• WILLIAM DORN WILL SOON HAVE A NEW SURGERY CENTER WITH MORE OPERATING ROOMS.
• THERE ARE MORE THAN 700,000 MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY IN AMERICA.  THERE SUPPORT OF THE LEGION IS VERY IMPORTANT AND PLAY A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE FOR HOMELESS FEMALE VETERANS. 
• MEMBERS WILL EARN A DEPARTMENT COMMANDERS PIN BY SIGNING UP A NEW MEMBER.  MEMBERS WILL EARN A NATIONAL COMMANDERS PIN BY SIGNING UP 3 NEW MEMBERS BEFORE MAY 31, 2019.
THINGS WE LEARNED AT THE CONVENTION LAST MONTH:
• IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED WE HAVE INSURANCE FOR THE GOLF CART WHEN TRANSFERRING MEMBERS FROM THE PARKING LOT TO THE POST, EVERYONE WHO HANDLES MONEY SHOULD BE BONDED, AND ALL EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS SHOULD HAVE UMBRELLA POLICIES. 
• A SAFE IS RECOMMENDED TO KEEP THE DD-214’S WE HAVE ON FILE.  WE LEARNED IF WE BLACK OUT BIRTHDAY’S, SERIAL NUMBERS, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, ETC.  IT IS BETTER TO MAKE A COPY TO KEEP ON FILE.  THE ORIGINAL PRINT CANNOT BE READ AFTER THE FORM HAS BEEN COPIED.
• THE CONSOLIDATED POST REPORT MAY BE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS WE SEND TO THE DEPARTMENT.  IT IS USED WHEN THE NATIONAL COMMANDER LOBBIES CONGRESS FOR VETERAN AND YOUTH BENEFITS.

  • The Poppy Sales in front of Wal-Mart and Sam’s Memorial Day Weekend was a tremendous success.We sold 3000 Poppy;s

  • We remembered our fallen when we lowered the flag to half-mast at 8 am and returned full mast at 12 pm on Memorial Day

  • Bones Wilson, Jerry Brezeale, Richard Meyers, Paul Thomas, and Paul Smith attended the Department Spring Convention in Columbia June 1 and June 20, 2018

  • Award medals and certificates were given to the Easley High School Students and Powdersville High who earned the Citizenship Award and The EJROTC Awards

  • Post 52 paid for 11 Boys to Palmetto Boys State and 3 Girls to Palmetto Girls State

  • The American Legion Monument has been returned to its proper place in front of the American Legion.A rededication is planned for July 4th, 2018

    New Business:

  • Post 52 has asked the residents of The American Legion Apartments as their guest for the 4th of July lunch.All members and wives or significant others are invited.Bones plans to re-dedicate the monument in front of the gazebo since it has been returned home.

  • We will have Wreaths Across America flyers next month.We are now taking donations for Wreaths Across America.The cost is $15 each.Post 52 retains $5.00 from each wreath sold.It is expected we will place a wreath on more than on more than 300 veteran graves in December.

  • Veterans Day is fast approaching.Our normal Veteran’s Day activities include the program at Robinson’s Memorial Gardens, sharing our military stories with elementary school classes, and The Willows.

  • We have reserved Smithfield’s CC dining room for this year’s Christmas Party December 4, 2018.More details later.

  • The Post plans to participate in the Belk’s Charity Day Sale in October.

  • We plan to have a booth in The Easley Fall Festival later this year.

  • Flag sales have reached a record high.We have sold more than a hundred flags in the past 6 weeks.The sale of flags to Pickens County and their different offices, the Liberty Fire Department, the city of Liberty, and the city of Pickens.

  • We talk about the Honor Guard but we have not completed the process.We need 4 more volunteers that can be available from time to time.

  • The Ladies Auxiliary and the Sons of the Legion are two program needed by Post 52 to make us a complete post.It also helps the post with department and national programs.

  • Scattered around the tables is a drawing of the stone monument sign being proposed to identify the post location in front of the post.

  • The Department of SC will sponsor another Rifle Raffle starting in November.More information will be available soon.Post 52 will keep $10 of the $25 raffle this time.

  • Jerry Brezeale has decided to step down as athletic director.Do we have a volunteer for the 2019 baseball season?

  • Only one person attended the Nathan Wolfe Law Enforcement academy this year.He attended last week.

  • You will be receiving your 2019 renewal forms this week.Please pay the post.It is much easier for the adjutant. We plan to be able to accept credit cards before next month is over.

    Other:

  • This week we learned how important it is to have a copy of your DD214 on file at the post. We have a member who now has dementia and his wife could not find a copy.We were able to help because he had left a copy of his DD214 on file at the Post.

  • The Department of SC has ended in the black.It has been many years since the Department has money in the bank.

  • Bill Miller, a member, has started the Operation Bandana Program at First Baptist Church Easley.Each bandana has a copy of Psalm 91 printed on it.The cost is $5 each. If you wish to donate please see Paul when he returns.

  • I was informed we can purchase more coins.Please pay in advance if you want a coin.They will also be available at the Fall Convention

  • If you give blood at the Blood Connection please inform Paul so he can enter the information on the Consolidated Post Report we send to the Department and National yearly.

  • Post 52 was given a plaque recognizing their 119% increase in membership for 2018.Thank you to everyone for helping with membership.

  • Congratulations to Geer Smith and Andrew Dye who were elected to city council and county council respectively at Palmetto Boys State.

  • Sam’s Wholesale is offering a special Military Membership Offer for new veteran members and veteran renewal members.The offer is a $10 gift card, free rotisserie chicken, free lattice apple pie, free 20 count all-butter cocktail croissants and two dollars off of a loaded potato salad.You will need the an active military ID, retired military ID, copy of your DD214, Veterans ID Card, an American Legion membership card, common access card or a VA medical benefits card.

  • Richard Meyers informed the executive board he and Ronald Maddox had won $50 each in the Legion Sweepstakes.

  • An award plaque is being made to remember the Easley fireman and officers who have won the fireman or law enforcement officer of the year.

  • Poppy Sales will be 25th, 26th and 28th May in front of Wal Mart and Sam’s Wholesale from 9 AM till 6 PM each day. We still need volunteers to work 3 hours a day from 12 pm to 6 pm
  • We will remember our fallen comrades by lowering the flag in front of Wal-Mart Easley at 8 am May 28 Memorial Day.  We will return at 12 pm to replace the existing flag and raise it back to full mast in accordance the President’s Memorial Day program.
  • The Department State Convention will be held June1st thru the 3rd at the Hotel Marriott in downtown Columbia. Many of the By-Laws are being challenged and the changed that will not favor the small Post.
  • The 100 year Department coins and shirts will be picked up at the convention
  •  Don’t forget the food drive.  Please continue to bring 2 cans of selected items to share with the needy. 
  • Easley High School and EJROTC Awards and Powdersville High Awards have been presented to the deserving students.  
  • Boys and Girls State will start Sunday the 10th thru the 17th

of June. Boys at Anderson College and the girls at Presbyterian College. All members are invited to attend opening night at Boys State.  The program begins at 7 pm at Anderson University. 

  • Volunteers are needed in everything we do at the Post.
  • Executive Board voted on Richard Meyer’s motion to place a plaque listing our Law Enforcement, Deputy and Fire Fighter of the year.
  • Flag Day is 14th of June and it would be good time for replacing faded flags.
  • Everyone should have noticed the monument that was first dedicated in 1962 to Post 52.  We will have a re-dedication next month.
  • All members have been invited to attend the Memorial Day Service at Easley United Methodist Church Sunday May 27, 2018.  If you have not attended this program you are missing an opportunity to honor our fallen comrades.
  • American Legion Post 52 opened for 2018 last night against Greenville.  Copies of the Legion Schedule are placed on the tables. Please take one, come out to the games and support Post 52 Baseball. We may put you to work.
